Andy Shelton

The highly acclaimed acoustic jazz/pop album is sure to entertain people of all ages. Shelton plays regularly on the university campuses and has opened for Peter Breinholt and Ryan Shupe to name a few. If you lived in Utah County you would know this artist from his hit songs “Great Granddaddy,” and “8th Avenue” which are quite well-known on the Northern Utah radio stations. “Great Granddaddy” can be heard regularly in St. George thanks to former Sounds of Sunday D.J. Sam Payne’s love of the song and the songwriter. “Andy’s new CD was in my car for two weeks straight. I memorized it. It’s fantastic,” says Payne. And Sam should know.

Both guitarists belong to the Timpanogos Singer/Songwriter Association which has chosen to publish songs from the musicians for the past four years on their acclaimed compilation albums which highlight the best talent in Utah. This last February, this current project entitled “Up On Market Street” was release to rave reviews from the local press. Event News Weekly calls his music “…Possibly the best written in the state.” And Mike Rosskelly of Rosskelly Sound says “It’s the best CD I’ve heard all year.”

Shelton's percussive acoustic jazz/folk style is well complimented by his "Unique, strong voice" (Taxi.com) and award winning story-like lyrics (lyricawards.com). With an honorable mention in the 12th annual Billboard Songwriting Contest, 1st place award on www.LyricAwards.com, and recent Honor Award in the 7th Annual Great American Song Contest, his work has proven solid yet he's just getting warmed up.

Shelton runs The Music School in Utah County and makes a living teaching guitar and playing his regular gigs in Salt Lake and Park City. “I’d love to be in a studio all day and on stage all night, but it’s not realistic in Utah, maybe when ‘…Market Street’ hits the radio in L.A.,” he laughs. Tuacahn High’s Artistic Director Jan Hunsaker has been hearing him play since he was living in her basement two years ago. She says that most of the songs on this album were “first recorded in my walk-in closet.” “Great acoustics in there,” Shelton adds, “problem is, you can’t sell an album to a rack of shirts.” Shelton nearly had to sell the shirt off his back to raise the money for the $20,000 price tag to record the album seriously but it has been selling now since February and his producers are excited to release it in Southern Utah.

As a solo artist over the last 5 years, Shelton has made concert appearances on Fox 13's Good Day Utah, Channel 4's Good Things Utah where he placed 2nd in the 'Utah's Next' competition, and The NuSkin World of Ice venue at the 2002 Winter Olympics. His music has been featured on the television programs “Not on the First Date” and “Mountain Views.”
