Julie de Azevedo
Home (hOm) noun. A place of origin … A physical structure where family resides … A place regarded as a refuge … A place where you belong.
For years, award-winning singer/songwriter, Julie de Azevedo has offered glimpses of that place through music. But now in her seventh album, appropriately titled, Home, it is apparent Julie has found that place too.
Her life as a busy mother, wife, therapist (and every other hat a woman wears) often left elusive those moments where Julie felt centered and peaceful. And finding time to write songs had become increasingly difficult. “I wasn't planning on doing another recording any time soon because my life was SO full, and I was content with that,” Julie says.
Remarkably, in June 2004, while in the midst of moving to a new home, the “songwriting floodgates opened,” Julie says, “and I felt the grace of God more fully than I ever had.” The search for a new home to better suit the needs of her family symbolized a personal quest for spiritual and personal growth. And through both the songwriting process and through grace, Julie rediscovered home in many areas of her life.
“Life isn’t simple,” Julie says. “It’s complex. But for the first time in a long time I feel newness all the way around – musically, personally, spiritually – at every level I am at home.”
Piano driven and what Julie calls “organically raw,” Home presents the intersection of life and faith with a focus on relationships – those with Christ, with children, with spouses, with one’s self, and even personal expectations. With lyrics that speak the realities of these relationships while still embracing hope, Home undoubtedly hits the mark [and the heart].
Coming from a long family legacy of musical excellence, Julie began her solo career in 1988 with her self-titled debut album. Since then she has become an icon in the world of faith-centered music. Her lyrical finesse has placed her among the upper echelon of inspirational singers, evident in the number of Pearl Awards she has received from the Faith Centered Music Association. Her projects have been featured in film, television and radio, and her much loved song, “Mercy’s Arms” was recorded by Grammy-award winning Gladys Knight. Each of Julie’s albums raises the bar and expands the boundaries of how far inspirational music can reach.
