I was born in Texarkana, TX, in February 1955, and grew up in nearby Hooks, TX. That’s where I took piano lessons as a kid and where I got started playing in country and rock bands. That’s also where my mama taught me to love and sing primary songs. The church was very small in our area and she was usually my primary teacher. After high school, I went to Argentina (1974-76) as the second missionary ever from our ward. When I returned, I studied business at BYU and that’s where I met Karen Brown from Maryland. We were married May 1977, in the Washington, D.C. temple. After graduation from BYU, I took Karen to Texas and we eventually ended up back in Hooks, where we stayed busy raising kids and serving in church. Among other callings, I served as bishop for over 6 years. I have worked in the computer industry all of my career. I earned an MS degree in business the hard way – at night while Karen and I raised 5 kids in Texas. We moved to Utah in 1998 when I was hired as Manager of Information Technology at the Provo Missionary Training Center. Since I was a junior at Hooks High School, I have been in a band, either country or rock and roll. With each band, I learned new musical skills and techniques. Now that we have only 1 teenager left at home, I finally have time to devote more effort to writing and recording music. I have written several hymns and country songs. I am currently taking a songwriting class at BYU and hope to pursue songwriting in a serious way. My all time favorite musician is John Fogerty and I still listen to CCR, the Eagles, Doobie Brothers and Grand Funk. I also love traditional country artists like George Strait, Alan Jackson and George Jones. To keep my performance skills current, I play as a one man band at dances, parties and receptions.
